I can confirm this problem still exists. It will fail with a segmentation fault when attempting to install it. It becomes necessary to run a sudo apt install -f to fix the dependency issue it causes. At that point, you get a suggested autoremove that if you actually followed the instruction to remove supposedly unneeded packages, it would bork your install. I had to set those packages to manually installed so they would not appear in autoremove any more.
Judging by the length of time this problem has existed per this thread, it obviously is not a priority issue to fix. It may be prudent to remove it from the repository as those with less linux experience can end up borking their install with this now faulty package.
