so I bought a raspberry pi 5 8gb, an m.2 slot for it and an m.2 to 6 sata splitter, I was going to just use OMV for the software(unless thats bad please tell me if it is haha) but Im kinda unsure how I can organize it, I have access to a 3d printer if I need to use that but im unsure how I can design something like that, most builds I see just use HDDs and I dont want to deal with them just because they're mechanical
I'm also in the process of designing a Pi 5 based network attached storage. My design is one SSD for the operating system and two largish HDDs for a redundant storage pool.

Given the recent article

and manufacturer specifications which estimate unpowered shelf life of flash as one to three years depending on temperature, I'm only using flash for the operating system and maybe a few user files that are actively backed up.

While it's true disks spin, trying to store an electric charge seems even more troublesome.

Instead of making an enclosure using a 3D printer, the plan here is to use ceramic tile. One advantage is being meltproof. In addition there is a surplus of tiles around here left over from a flooring project.
