seriously, (ie not being facetious) - you would be better off using separate mains - The ipad will only draw current when charging, the apple power supplies tend to have some intelligence (I believe). with a switched multiway outlet you can leave the pi on and switch the ipad off when it doesn't need charging. (you might want to carry it around....).
