General discussion • Running from SSD and backup- best practise advice asked

Hi,
I'm running Jellyfin, Syncthing and NextCloud on a Raspberry Pi 4. At the moment, everything is running from the SD-card. 2 SSD disks are connected, one with music (synced with Syncthing to my laptops music SSD) and one with movies (Jellyfin). Those SSDs are backed up with Vorta to Borgbase.

I'm planning to at least move Nextcloud to an SSD, because the PiMyLifeUp guide advises to do so.

For the moment, I'm not yet using NextCloud. But once I do, of course I need a good backup plan. Something with what I can switch to a previous version when something crashes.

If I keep everything on my SD-card, I could easily make a backup on one of the SSD disks, who in turn are backed up in the cloud with Vorta. Not sure how easy it would be to recover a running system from that backup (i mean from a ssd) to a running system again, from a reinstalled SD-card.

If I run everything from an SD card, although it has a backup at borgbase, you need a running system to browse your borgbase repositories. So that's not an easy solution to get my system up and running again. Or am I mistaken?

There are far to many ways to backup and restore a system, I read about some of them, but maybe someone has experience with a setup like this and can point me in the right direction. That would be a good starting point to read and try stuff...
