Troubleshooting • Re: new pi5 broken, only gives one long flash in attempt to boot

Hi, newbie here, so sorry for any potential instances of blatant stupidity.

I recently got a new pi5, but I can't get it to work. Every time I power it on, it shows one long green flash (for about a second) and then turns red. It doesn't output anything. This happens regardless of if there's even a memory card in it or not.

I tried using the EEPROM boot fix, and it seemed to work (green output to HDMI, infinite green short flashes) but it didn't change anything when I tried anything else.

Can anyone help me with this issue? I imagine it's something trivial like me being stupid or the pi being broken, but I can't find anyone else who had this problem. Thank you!

What Operating System did you choose to install? Onto what bootable medium? Using what Workstation and what applications?

If the official documentation doesn't answer your questions there is a distillation of all the advice from these forums available here ->

Given a working display and appropriate cable you should always be able to generate the Diagnostic Display -
