MicroPython • Re: Sending MIDI and other data over USB

What I was hoping to avoid was pretty much all of these considerations by not using any MIDI messages in creative ways.
if you are not going to use MIDI messages in creative ways you will be limited to only sending MIDI Spec defined messages. If you consider using SysEx to be too creative then you won't be able to send the data you want to send using that MIDI stream; MIDI Spec 1.0 doesn't allow that.

It seems you would have to invent some other way of doing it, have to get creative, risking compatibility with everything else out there.
Ideally, you'd be able to plug my system into a DAW via USB, or link it to other MIDI instruments via USB (I'm not planning to use the traditional 5-pin DIN), and it would work exactly as expected.
Unfortunately that feels to me like a 'back of a napkin' specification which would seem to need a lot more explaining and detail to be able to deliver a solution.

My experience is with 5-pin DIN connections, and using USB as a virtual serial equivalent. I am only familiar with MIDI Spec 1.0 - the published one from the MMA, MIDI files, MIDI Show Control and related. My knowledge is firmly rooted in the 1990's so I don't think there's much more I can add to what I have said.
