That sounds a bit suspicious. I can't think of a reason why 32-bit would work while 64-bit doesn't. It may just be timing.
In most cases I've heard of where an extra SD card slot has been added this way, the user has ended up down-clocking the interface to 25MHz. Does adding "overclock_50=25" make any difference?
