You don't have to use the official cables. You can get shorter (or longer) cables. You can get more flexible cables. As for the length of the power cord... Two solutions. If it almost long enough, get the new 45W PSU with a 1.5m (up from 1.2m) USB cable. If that isn't enough, carry an AC, extension cord, which needn't be heavy duty.
