In fact, I have written code on the (Linux) host that explicitly waits for usb0 to exist (loops, checking ifconfig, then sleeping a couple seconds, etc) - which maybe takes an iteration or two, but eventually finds it.
Maybe things are different with a Windows host. I'm pretty sure I've tested this with Windows (long ago), but can't really remember much of it.
1 or maybe 1.5 year ago i tried using my rpi zero 2 w over usb ethernet mode , it worked at that time , it was detected on my linux laptop , idk why it doesn't work anymore.
