It's unequivocal, and does exactly the right thing. You can copy and paste it into the terminal and not worry about typos, or which editor the person is using (e.g. Emacs).Of course, no one would actually do it that way. Again, it is a translation of how sane people actually do things into "board speak" for posting.
In real life, you'd always do it by invoking an editor (i.e., vi/vim) and creating/editing the file as needed.
Doing it the way shown in the post above is just way too error prone, if you are typing it in directly to the shell.
