I have a RPi4b that has been running at idle for several months. I am trying to login now, and when I use what I think is the right password, the screen goes black for about 2s, then the same login prompt appears again. If I use a wrong password I get the "Incorrect password, please try again" response in the login prompt. It is possible the password I think is correct is not correct, but then, I don't understand this black screen behavior. Does anyone know what might be happening here? It has gone through a few power outages where the 'mains' power has been cut during a storm, When this has happened with my RPi02W boards (2x) I have found I need to re-flash the sd card, but they are running software other than the Raspberry Pi OS. I'd rather not reflash the RPi4b as I have not backed up the files. I can't remember what the RP OS version was on the RPi4b, but it was probably something from the last year.
