I download the disk image/OS to a Linux PC, then insert the drive I want to put it on, & either use dd or cp to put the downloaded image onto the drive.(But often I will just use another PC to copy/dd the download to disk).
Are you referring to the Raspberry Pi Imager? Tried that which resulted in the "initramfs" messages even though the imager says it has successfully written OS to SSD. If you have another method I would like to "hear" it.
