Using a Raspberry Pi powered hub (or any hub that doesn't back power the host) with Raspberry Pi4 as the host works well.
On Windows 10/11 hubs or nested hubs sometimes cause reliability issues with rpiboot so would always recommend Linux/RPi OS as the rpiboot host.
