I have bought a seemingly nice modern little huawei modem E5586-236 , huawei Wifi 5 modem , as I didn't want, at first, to let an old phone over there.
As I tested the setup in my home, with a Rpi 5 and the dahua wifi camera on the LAN provided by the huawei modem, it didn't work at all. It is crap even reducing the cam live feeds to really low streams down to 30 kB/s . It is strange as when I did a few tests, it didn't seem that bad , around 26-28 MB/s when testing with iperf3 between a Rpi3 and Rpi5 on that LAN and about 2.8 MB/s when copying a 50M file with scp from the Rpi5 to the Rpi3 ( 0.8 MB/s the other way )
When I switched to an old, not very old actually, xiaomi redmi note 8 used as hotspot, it worked perfectly, even when streaming over 4G 1080p .
I still have to check how will be the uplink speed as the parking is 2 floors down.
Anyway, according to my experience, avoid using E5586-236 huawei modem, if you have to stream videos, it doesn't work, it'll be back to Huawei soon !
