Official Display • Touch Display 2 not working on reboot [PI5]

Hello! Sorry if my terminology is not quite right, still new here.

I have the Raspberry pi 5, and the official display connected via DSI. No other screen is connected.
The display works fine when powering on (after the power supply has been disconnected). I see the "boot sequence" running on the screen, and then ubuntu-frame opens my kiosk app automatically. Everything is grand.

However, it doesn't work at all when rebooting via command line or the physical button. No "boot sequence", and definitely no app being launched. The backlight is on, and the PI is running (ssh works fine), but the display is blank.
When looking in dmesg, no record whatsoever mentioning the word "dsi" or "touch".
Running

Code:

cat /proc/bus/input/devices
doesn't show the device either.

It seems to me like maybe the screen doesn't power down, and thus isn't in the right mode when the PI tries to connect to it?
Any help, even just a direction to look in to find the issue, is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Specs:
RPI 5 Model B
Ubuntu Server 24.04.3 LTS
Kernel: 6.8.0-1035-raspi
