Perhaps you will indulge me by answering a supplemental question ...
Is it likely that having just gone through the massive change transitioning to Bookworm can we expect a simple transition to the next OS iteration thereby enabling easy upgrades to new and future versions of the OS and making SSDs finally useful?
Given solutions outlined above, where the OS lives on the SD card while data lives on the SSD, we're simply knobbling the processor particularly the Pi5.
