Thanks, for the reply. I went through the post you linked and modified my config file and rebooted. The stress test still doesn't cause the fan to turn on. I don't think its a config file issue.
Just to see what happened, I unplugged the fan module, then reconnected it - this made the fan briefly run, similar to how it does on boot, then stopped and is unresponsive as normal - not sure if this helps.
