You've never picked up an IBM Model M keyboard. I think they had a steel base plate.Got my Pi 500+ earlier today and I've got to say it's a very, very nice computer (and surprisingly heavy for its size) with an excellent keyboard (one of the best keyboards I've used since 1982 and I've used a lot of keyboards, although I still think my Oric Atmos had the best keyboards of all the home computers from the 80's). It's also a very nice keyboard to touch type on and it didn't take too long to get used to typing on a smaller keyboard after using full-size keyboards for so long.
Just curious.... Did you install an RTC battery while you had it open? (I mean...if the case is open, one might as well. The header for it is there and it adds some nice functionality to a machine that is liable to be moved around.)I swapped my SSD from my existing Pi 5 16GB setup and apart from finding it a little fiddly to refit the screw (I kept dropping it under the heatsink due to shaky hands) that keeps the SSD in place I was up and running in under 30 minutes.
All-in-all I'm very happy with my latest Raspberry Pi purchase and it'll keep me going until the Pi 6 (eventually) comes out - but until them is full steam ahead with my new favourite computer
