Hello again. I have been talking to Google Geminii again and since the keyboard appeared to work outside the GUI was advised to revert to the GUI and see what happens. That was done and the keyboard appears to work correctly. The subsequent advice was to log out and re-boot which should clear the error which appeared to be blocking the keyboard. I have done that and the keyboard is back to normal with Numb Lock and Caps lock working.
