Lots of people are discussing compiling kernels, but I didn't find any passage discussing how to swap the kernel back to apt installed version.

If the apt installed kernel is 6.6.x, and I compile a 6.6.x kernel, it works. But if I compile and install a 6.12.x kernel, it just can't start. Are there steps that I'm missing?
Also, I want to know how to switch the kernel from self compiled version to the apt version, like when I'm tired of playing around with kernels and want to go back and follow the pace of official release.
