Yes, I'm surprised as well. It does make me think there must be a simple solution. I haven't tried the 32bit versions because the app (seestar_alp) will only run on 64-bit.
I'm going to put a heatsink on the Soc to see if it's a heat issue and I'll try and run the Pi off a bench supply at 5.1V with substantial wires and monitor the current as well.
So I thought I'd circumvent the issue and use a dongle for the AP that I need for the app I intend to use but that started another rabbit hole.
I can use the RPiZ2W on board ship for setup, debug etc. This is lightly loaded and appears to be reliable in these circumstances.
I added a USB dongle (ID 7392:7811 Edimax Technology Co., Ltd EW-7811Un 802.11n Wireless Adapter [Realtek RTL8188CUS]) and with my luck this gives issues as well as in I can't connect to it with it setup as an AP.
But that not the same issue so if I get stuck I create another thread.
I'll feed back any results but as the festive season is nearly upon us it may have to be in the new year.
Cheers
Andy
