Raspberry Pi OS • Re: Network Access?

I have just found a note to myself started when my state of knowledge was similar to the OP. This probably involves installing nmap and smbclient but it still works on Bookworm if they are there.

On the command line
nmap -sn 192.168.1.0/24 | grep 'Nmap'
Lists what hosts are on the local subnet (change the IP range to your own).
smbclient -L 192.168.1.53 -U guest -N
Lists the shares (if any) on that host.

In File manager (PCmanFM), (for an example IP address) putting in the address bar
smb://192.168.1.53/sharename
takes you through any authentication required for a share called sharename on that host and opens it. If you then use the 'up a level' icon it will list the other shares on that host. You may need to go through authentification again to open them.

The share (on Bookworm at any rate) is mounted at
/run/user/1001/gvfs/ smb-share:server=192.168.1.53,share=sharename
where 1001 is the user number ( go to /run/user if you don't know it)

That example IP address is my Buffalo NAS . Putting network:/// in the pcmanfm address bar doesn't list it - but it can still be mounted as above and going up a level lists the other shares.
