This may not be representative, but here on the liberal frontier the decision makers gifted iPads to new students to increase enrollment.
While the iPencil is an excellent tool for drawing cartoons, in practice I do not find it much better than a quill when faced with science, technology, engineering and mathematical tasks.
Having stated the context, the product I'd like to see is a tablet computer shaped and styled like an iPad with a stylus and portfolio keyboard but with the general Linux programming environment and numerical libraries of a Pi. The thin form factor, screen, battery, writing stylus and vendor support need to compare in polish with existing tablets.
As far as I know, there is no such product.
