It has been confirmed that:

* the Pi 5 works just fine with the official supply
* it does negotiate and select the 5v@5A mode
* said supply works just fine with other USB-PD sinks
* the Pi 5 plays nicely with other USB-PD sources, and yes some exists with the 5v@5A mode
* they are following the USB-PD spec (which is freely available to download and read)
At this point there are a number of third party wall warts marketed for use with the Pi 5.

For example,

Geekworm PD 27W 5.1V 5A Power Supply for Raspberry Pi 5

https://geekworm.com/products/pd27w

CanaKit 5A USB-C Power Supply with PD for the Raspberry Pi 5

https://www.canakit.com/canakit-5a-rasp ... usb-c.html

Argon PWR GaN USB-C PD Power Supply 27 Watts

https://argon40.com/products/argon-pwr- ... y-27-watts

And generic brands such as

Yahboom Raspberry Pi 5 Power Supply 27W

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CRKKGV18/

CHEROSIN PD 27W USB-C Power Supply 5.1V / 5A PSU Charger for Raspberry Pi 5

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CTHJ44NT/

BOXPUT 27W Power Supply for Raspberry Pi 5

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CT5B5ZLP/

among others.

Fido likes the Yahboom model because it sounds exciting and the sideways shape does not take so much space on a US-style power strip.

Does anyone have any comments on these third party power supplies in terms of quality?
