Raspberry Pi OS • Why is ImageMagick so hard to use? (Cropping JPGs in Linux)

This is sort of a rant, but there are also a few questions. Anyway, I really the concept of the IM programs, but like many Linux programs, they really go out of their way to be hard to use. They seem to have a million options that you will never use with the few that you actually need to know, lost in the chatter.

In particular, I'd like a simple GUI-based way to crop images. So far, the only way I've been able to do this with IM is by specifying the coordinates directly (as numbers), which does work, but obviously involves a lot of trial-and-error, since there's no way to get the right numbers other than endless trial-and-error.

The IM "display" command contains an option on one of the menus of "Crop", but it doesn't seem to do anything. One expects that when one selects Crop from a menu, that the mouse cursor would change to something that indicates you can select a range of your image to crop, but this does not happen.

Note: I've used GIMP under Windows and it does work, but seems way overkill for a simple "crop" operation. I'd like to avoid having to install that on Linux if possible.
