Are you sure most cases sold are metal? The official case is plastic, and we sell a lot of them.I think I found the problem.
It seems like the metal case is acting like a WIFI shield in my circumstance.
I would never have guessed this.
This is a bit annoying since most RaspberryPi cases being sold are metal.
There is one remaining possibility:
Is it possible to create a short by exposed copper on the edge of board?
I would assume this is not true and that there is builtin short circuit protection but not a 100% on that.
Putting the Pi 5in a metal case will reduce wireless performance, the aerial is now inside a metal shield so it loses a lot of transmit power.
