Troubleshooting • Re: SSH refusing to work with SSL key and no password

I have found numerous other posts all over the Internet from people having the same problem, but never a solution. I am thinking that maybe Buster doesn't support SSH logins using SSL keys.

Does anybody know of a solution or workaround.

I can get in to the pi with a password with no problem. And I can get in to other linux systems with SSL keys and no password.

Wondering if Buster used a proprietary file format for the "authorized_keys" file.

I wrote lot of notes about a similar question a few days ago. Perhaps something there might help? viewtopic.php?t=387818&hilit=ssh#p2314898

I don't have an RPI board running Buster at the moment to check.

But I can say that using my standard PPK pair works with RasPiOS Stretch, Bullseye and Bookworm. I see no reason why RasPiOS Buster should be any different, and don't recall encountering any issue during the times past when it was the current OS.
