I read: "Through a few hedges". I have a rather good quality CAT5e cable (from a 100 meter roll) put in the hedge over here and also a 5 meter part underground in a 30 mm PVC pipe. That is for a PoE foscam which uses also IR LED at night to then much more that a Pi1/0 with its 2W or so. But maybe hedges are not along the path between mains power and Pi for your situation.

I also have a Pi1B PoE powered, that is via a cheap CCA 60m ground cable.

And also Pi3B off-grid solar powered, it has 12V gel cell battery, system has also 4T HDD 3.5inch. The battery is totally wear-out, still did not replace it, instead I have done some algorithm that acts upon sun energy. That is acceptable for my use-case.

Cable through hedge was easy and fast to get working, but it all depends on your situation. In my case it does not need protection, no UV light issues, not goats chewing on it or else. Also no potential issues with WiFi disturbance. I use off-the-shelf active PoE 12W devices (RJ45-F, -M, microUSB). And a 8-port PoE managed switch.
