Troubleshooting • MPD using SMB share under Bookworm

I've been trying to set up a vanilla MPD instance on a Pi 2 Zero W running Bookworm 32 bit lite. My music is on a cifs share on a NAS. I've set up a mount entry in fstab. I have MPD set up as a service to start at boot. My problem is that MPD starts before the file is mounted. Bookworm does not have the raspi-config setting "wait for network on boot." I've tried the _netdev , x-systemd.requires=network-online.target. and x-systemd.automount options in my fstab entry. After booting I can mount the drive using sudo mount -a. Is there a way to reproduce the wait for boot condition that worked fine in earlier versions of the OS or should I just go back to Bullseye?
