Other projects • Re: UK Telephone Caller ID Decoding Revisited

By the way, did BT intentionally introduce a 1.5s delay before the ring, just to send Caller ID? That seems horrifically inefficient. I guess at some point in history the ring cadence was generated centrally for the entire exchange, so there could be a delay of up to 2s before the start of ring. But surely as soon as it was done electronically you would want to start ringing immediately on connection.
I think BT's Caller ID setup up was done by a bunch of very clever guys and they thought through what would be useful come the revolution. Sadly the numpties actually in charge now probably have no ideas about what it is nor what it can offer. From what I've seen so far it is very under used. Years back when I started it included packets that indicated an INTERNATIONAL call even through it arrived as a simple UK sourced numbers.

I would be happy to share but don't have a Github account and looking at what's there already not sure I could handle the faff. Don't think they allow PMs here either and we should avoid public email addresses. My other problem is it still uses WiringPi to drive the OFF HOOK relay and I haven't yet got my head around that even though other current projects are pushing that way.
