Thanks for this. I'll look into it.HA was purely for ideas, see what they or systems they have come up with (it's usually some open source thing in the background).
Doubt the Google AI Voice thing will help as modern AI wasn't really around back then.

Maybe some ideas, though looks like it might use and online API, but then that also pointed to here with some other offline versions you could use https://github.com/Uberi/speech_recognition#readme and a lead to the fact there is a Whisper usable offline (I think this is/was used in HomeAssistant as I can install it there)
