I just have one other question: During the upgrade, I see a lot of WARNINGS re failures to delete old directories; e.g.

We all had such warnings while upgrading to Trixie with the beta or the RC.
However I don't get it why you carried on trying to upgrade (which is not recommended) when it's so easy and much cleaner to save and reinject your data on a fresh Trixie install.
Pray tell then, what is your secret formula for this "reinject" process? IOW:
I keep current backups in raw image (.img) files. They're quite easy to mount, and I know how to copy those files from the .img to the "fresh system install". The question is, "How do you know which files should be copied?" Do you have some process for identifying these files?
