The 5V power pins on both USB ports on a Zero are connected directly together. Also they are directly connected to pins 2 and 4 on the GPIO connector.
There is no protection or switching involved.
The only limitation is the thickness of the tracks on the Zero PCB. They should be good for at least 1A.
